The Way Gordon Parks Saw New York
Gordon Parks, the first African-American photographer for Life magazine, would have turned 100 this year. In celebration, his works are being exhibited in many places in the city.
There are moments in our lives, there are moments in a day, when we seem to see beyond the usual- become clairvoyant. We reach then into reality. Such are the moments of our greatest happiness. Such are the moments of our greatest wisdom. It is in the nature of all people to have these experiences; but in our time and under the conditions of our lives, it is only a rare few who are able to continue in the experience and find expression for it.
The Mohawk Ironworkers: Rebuilding the Iconic Skyline of New York
For more than a century, Mohawk ironworkers have helped shape New York City’s iconic skyline, guiding ribbons of metal into the steel skeletons that form the backbone of the city. On the 11th anniversary of September 11th, LightBox presents Melissa Cacciola’s tintype series of the Mohawk ironworkers helping to raise One World Trade Center.
